€31,80
🌱 Morphology
A ornamental Japanese selection prized for the glassy shine of its fleshy leaves and its translucent windows, which resemble small polished crystals. In specimens marketed as ‘Suishou’ from the Haworthia comptoniana group, the leaves form a compact rosette and feature triangular, translucent, and highly lustrous tips. The coloration may darken and take on reddish or purplish tones when the plant experiences environmental stress. The exact shape and color may vary depending on the season.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
A Japanese horticultural cultivar, not a distinct wild species. Its classification under H. comptoniana should not be considered definitive for all specimens sold under this name, as it is also associated with other Haworthia lines.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is recommended to grow it frost-free, preferably above 5 °C, with protection from damp cold. Although some Haworthias tolerate brief temperature drops, this tolerance should not be extrapolated to all cultivars.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant indirect light or bright partial shade. A PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ can serve as a guideline, adjusted according to the plant's response. Intense sun can cause burns and excessive reddish coloration; insufficient light promotes loose, less compact growth.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. As a general guideline, water thoroughly during the growing season when the substrate is dry and reduce watering during periods of intense heat. Waterlogging must be avoided, and good ventilation should be maintained. Frequency should be adjusted according to temperature, light, and the actual drying of the substrate.
🌸 Flowering
Produces an elongated inflorescence with small whitish, tubular-looking flowers with greenish bands, characteristic of the genus. A specific flowering schedule for this selection has not been confirmed.
🌿 Nutrition
Use Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., NPK 3-2-8 with calcium and magnesium, during the active growing season. It is advisable to reduce or suspend feeding during summer dormancy and avoid high salt concentrations.
