Haworthia ‘Maughanoides’ — Haworthia with Sculptural Windows
🌱 Morphology
A collector's Haworthia whose name suggests a morphological affinity with the Haworthia maughanii group, prized for its fleshy leaves and large translucent windows. In many Haworthias, old roots can deteriorate during the summer dormancy and renew when growth resumes in autumn.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
A horticultural cultivar marketed under the name ‘Maughanoides’. The breeder and genetic origin have not been confirmed. The genus Haworthia is native to southern Africa, where numerous species grow among rocks or under vegetation that reduces direct sunlight.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is moist. During intense heat, it needs ventilation and protection from direct sunlight.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Avoid intense direct sun, which can cause burns and alter the leaf coloration. Indicative PAR DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cool seasons, water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before repeating. During periods of intense heat, reduce watering and promote ventilation. Gradually resume watering in autumn, when temperatures drop and root growth reactivates. Avoid waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
Elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, characteristic of the genus.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, NPK 3-2-8 with calcium and magnesium. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
9x9 cm gourmet black pot
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a technological square pot and with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
