€7,95
🌱 Morphology
An extraordinary-looking cultivar, prized for its fleshy, relatively flat, and translucent leaves of a luminous green color. The leaf windows allow light to penetrate the internal tissues, creating a crystalline effect reminiscent of an illuminated stained-glass window. Its leaves feature small teeth on the margins and keel, a distinctive trait that adds texture and reinforces its unusual appearance. It forms compact rosettes that can produce offsets and develop clusters over time. The combination of transparency, bright green tones, and fine dentition makes it a highly attractive piece for collectors of unique Haworthias.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
Horticultural cultivar of hybrid origin, marketed under the name ‘LED Mutant’. According to the identification hypothesis we follow at DesertSTORE, one of its parents is Haworthia inconfluens (formerly Haworthia mucronata), while the other, still unidentified, could explain the small teeth present on the leaf margins and keel. This lineage is not conclusively documented, so it remains a working hypothesis.
The species Haworthia inconfluens is associated with the Little Karoo, in the Western Cape Province, South Africa, in the vicinity of Ladismith. It grows in stony and rocky terrain, where plants are often partially protected from direct sunlight by the surrounding terrain and vegetation. Its environment features irregular rainfall and dry periods that favor growth linked to the availability of moisture and moderate temperatures.
Family Asphodelaceae, tribe Alooideae, genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
Tolerates minimum temperatures near −1 °C for short periods, provided the substrate is dry and the plant remains protected from prolonged frost. The combination of cold and persistent humidity can cause damage to the roots and leaf tissues.
☀️ Lighting
Prefers abundant filtered light or bright semi-shade. A PAR DLI of 8–15 mol/m²/day is a suitable reference for maintaining compact growth and highlighting the transparency of the leaves. Intense direct sun can cause burns and alter the coloration, so it is advisable to acclimate it progressively to any increase in light.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Relative summer dormancy. During periods of intense heat, it may slow its growth. It is recommended to water deeply when the substrate is dry and allow it to dry out completely before the next watering. From autumn to spring, if temperatures are moderate and the plant shows activity, more regular watering can be maintained, always adapted to the drying of the substrate. It is essential to avoid waterlogging and ensure good root aeration.
🌸 Flowering
Produces a thin, elongated inflorescence with small white tubular flowers, streaked with greenish or brownish lines. In cultivation, flowering may appear during the spring, although the timing depends on environmental conditions and the plant's development status.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
