Haworthia 'Ikeda Hannya' | Hannya Window Haworthia
€31,80
🌱 Morphology
Japanese collection selection obtained by selecting ‘Ura Hannya’ seedlings. It develops fleshy leaves with large translucent leaf windows on the underside, a particularly striking feature that allows light to be seen through the internal tissues. The windows stand out for their high transparency and may feature linear patterns that contrast with the more opaque epidermal areas. The development of these transparent surfaces is its main ornamental appeal and distinguishes it from Haworthias whose windows are concentrated at the upper end of the leaves. Maximum dimensions and a complete parental formula have not been confirmed for this selection.
As with many Haworthias, during the summer dormancy, the old roots may deteriorate and the plant develops new roots when growth resumes in autumn. This root renewal should be taken into account when adjusting the watering to the seasonal cycle.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
‘Ikeda Hannya’ is a Japanese horticultural selection documented by Cactus Nishi within its series of mutants. The catalogue identifies it as a featured selection among ‘Ura Hannya’ seedlings, but does not provide a complete genealogy or confirm the original breeder. The horticultural selection should not be confused with a botanical species nor attributed with its own wild locality. The genus Haworthia is native to southern Africa, where numerous species grow among rocks and on stony ground, often partially protected from direct sunlight.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is wet. It tolerates moderate heat if it has ventilation and protection from intense sun.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Avoid sudden intense sun, which can cause burns and alter the appearance of the translucent tissues. DLI PAR guide: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cool seasons, water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before watering again. In summer, reduce watering during periods of extreme heat and maintain good ventilation. As autumn approaches, gradually resume watering as temperatures drop and root growth reactivates. Avoid waterlogging and prolonged moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a fine and elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, characteristic of the genus. The DesertSTORE product sheet indicates flowering between April and June, although the calendar may vary depending on growing conditions. Its main ornamental appeal lies in the large, highly transparent leaf windows.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with an NPK 3-2-8 formulation and calcium and magnesium. Apply with watering according to the product instructions and reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy. Resume feeding when the plant has resumed growth in autumn.
