Haworthia ‘Glass Green’ — Glass Green Window Haworthia
🌱 Morphology
A collector's cultivar whose trade name alludes to the transparency and green hue of its leaf tissues. In window Haworthias, the translucent surfaces allow light to penetrate into the interior of the fleshy leaves and produce a glass-like visual effect. Possibly a hybrid of Haworthia picta var. comptoniana.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
‘Glass Green’ is marketed as a collector's horticultural cultivar. Its breeder, country of origin and full parentage have not been documented. Haworthias are native to southern Africa, where they grow in environments including rocky outcrops and areas partially protected by vegetation or stones. The cultivar does not have a documented wild locality of its own.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is wet. It tolerates moderate heat if it has ventilation, bright shade and watering adjusted to the temperature.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Avoid sudden intense sun, which can cause burns and alter the coloration of the translucent tissues. Indicative PAR DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cool seasons, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before watering again. In summer, reduce watering during periods of extreme heat and maintain good ventilation. Avoid waterlogging and prolonged moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It can produce a slender, elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, characteristic of the genus. DesertSTORE's trade sheet places flowering between April and June, although the timing may vary depending on growing conditions. Its ornamental appeal lies in its foliage and, if confirmed in the specimen, in the transparency of its leaf windows.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with an NPK 3-2-8 formulation and calcium and magnesium. Apply with watering according to the product instructions and reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
