🌱 Morphology
A horticultural selection marketed as Haworthia ‘Amida’. Possible parents are Haworthia badia and Haworthia comptoniana due to the shape and arrangement of the leaves, the transparency of the windows, the relief of their patterns, or their coloration. The name Amida refers to Amitābha, the Buddha of infinite light, but it has not been confirmed that its choice is related to a specific morphological characteristic. Neither the breeder nor its hybrid genealogy have been verified.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
This is a cultivated plant, with no confirmed native wild locality for this selection.
It belongs to the family Asphodelaceae, tribe Alooideae, genus Haworthia. Neither the breeder nor its hybrid genealogy have been verified.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is recommended to protect it from frost and preferably keep it above 5 °C, especially avoiding cold accompanied by moisture in the substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Bright filtered light or bright partial shade. It is recommended to avoid intense direct sun during the middle of the day and to gradually acclimate the plant to any change in exposure. As an initial reference, a PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ allows you to adjust the lighting according to its response.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. As a general guideline for Haworthia, it is recommended to moderate watering during periods of intense heat and favor it when temperatures are milder. During growth, water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before repeating. Avoid waterlogging and standing water in the center of the rosette.
🌸 Flowering
The DesertSTORE product sheet indicates flowering between April and June. It has not been possible to verify that this calendar is specific to all specimens marketed under the name ‘Amida’.
🌿 Nutrition
It is recommended to use Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., formulated for Alooideae, during active growth. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
