🌱 Morphology: Very compact succulent, usually solitary, forming a spectacular closed cup-shaped rosette, with fleshy, imbricate, glaucous green leaves. During drought, the outer leaves may dry out and the rosette closes even further, protecting the center. The roots are thin and fibrous. This is the taxon traditionally known as Greenovia diplocycla.

🌍 Distribution, habitat and family: Endemic to La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, in the Canary Islands. It mainly lives in rocky crevices and ledges, frequently in forest and relatively shaded environments, from about 50 to 1,700 m. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family.

❄️ Temperature: Approximately USDA 9b–11b. In cultivation, I recommend keeping it above 5 °C, especially in a pot. It can withstand brief drops close to 0 °C if it remains completely dry, but it is not advisable to expose it to frost.

☀️ Lighting: Approximate target of 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of PAR DLI during growth. It prefers plenty of light, but in very hot climates, it appreciates protection from the most intense direct sun, especially during its dormancy.

💧 Growth cycle: Shows growth mainly in autumn, winter, and spring, with a marked summer dormancy. During the active period, water abundantly and let the substrate dry out completely before the next watering. In summer, reduce watering significantly, especially with high temperatures.

🌸 Flowering: Produces an inflorescence that emerges from the center of the rosette, with numerous yellow flowers. As with other monocarpic rosette Aeoniums, the flowering rosette eventually dies after flowering, although the plant may persist through lateral offspring when produced.

🌿 Nutrition: During active growth, Desert CHOICE at a moderate dose. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
