        🌱 Morphology
A compact-growth horticultural mutation cultivar that develops a rosette of extraordinarily fleshy, modified leaves. The leaves curve and roll inward to form short, small tubes, with rounded, partially closed ends that resemble a small snout. This characteristic is stable in cultivation and is the feature that gave rise to the trade names ā€˜Pig Nose’ and ā€˜Trumpet’.

The rosette can reach approximately 15–20 cm in diameter in mature specimens and exhibits compact growth. Cultivated material may develop several heads and form clumps over time, although there are differences between clones and commercial lines.

The leaves display shades ranging from light green to bluish-green or grayish-blue. When exposed to intense light for prolonged periods, pink and purple tones may appear, especially toward the tips. The farina contributes to the plant’s powdery, slightly porcelain-like appearance.

It should be distinguished from Echeveria ā€˜Pink Trumpet’, which develops a larger plant with longer, more slender tubular leaves. In ā€˜Pig Nose’, the leaf tubes are generally shorter, thicker, and more compact.

        šŸŒ Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae. As a horticultural mutation cultivar, it has no natural distribution of its own, and it is not appropriate to assign it to a section or infrageneric series of Echeveria.

Its exact horticultural origin is not publicly documented, and there is no recognized breeder or pedigree that would allow its parentage to be reliably attributed.

        ā„ļø Temperature
USDA Zone 9b. It can tolerate minimum temperatures of up to āˆ’4 ĀŗC on occasion when completely dry and protected from moisture.

Prolonged exposure to frost is not recommended. During winter, the combination of cold, moisture, and water trapped between the tubular leaves should be avoided, as it may promote rot. In protected cultivation, good ventilation around the rosette should be maintained.

        ā˜€ļø Lighting
Full sun. Approximate DLI: 20–30 molĀ·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It requires very high light levels to maintain its compact growth and promote the appearance of bluish, pink, and purple tones. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can notably intensify the pink coloration of the leaves.

Gradual acclimatization should be carried out when the plant comes from greenhouse conditions. In Madrid, during periods of extreme heat, light protection during the middle of the day may be advisable, while maintaining a high DLI.

Insufficient light promotes stem elongation and leaf separation, causing the rosette to lose some of its characteristic tubular structure.

        šŸ’§ Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. When grown in Europe, it is mainly active during spring and summer, while growth slows considerably during winter. Specific cultivation recommendations for this cultivar identify spring and summer as its growing season.

During the active growing season, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. Water should be applied directly to the substrate and never to the rosette.

In ā€˜Pig Nose’, this precaution is especially important because the tubular leaves can trap water droplets inside. After watering, good ventilation should be ensured so that any residual moisture evaporates quickly.

During periods of extreme heat, if the plant slows its activity, watering should be spaced out. In autumn, watering should be gradually reduced, and during winter dormancy, the substrate should be kept almost completely dry.

        🌸 Flowering
Flowering may occur during the temperate seasons, especially when the plant has reached sufficient maturity and received high light levels.Ā

        🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing season, Desert CHOICEĀ® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICEĀ® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.

This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a high-tech square pot with a substrate enriched with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
