🌱 Morphology
A Korean horticultural hybrid of unpublished parentage that forms a compact, orderly rosette of moderate size.
The leaves are fleshy and relatively flat, obovate, widening towards the apex and ending in a short point. They may have a fine whitish pruinose coating that softens the base color and gives them a slightly velvety appearance.
Its main attraction is the color of its epidermis: part of the plant may remain in gray-green tones, but with abundant light the leaves gradually acquire intense red-purple, maroon, and violet tones, reaching a blood-red color in highly colored specimens. This characteristic has given rise to the common name “Dracula’s lover”, which is used internationally for the cultivar.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family: Crassulaceae. A horticultural hybrid of Echeveria, produced in a nursery in Korea. It has no known natural distribution, and no reliable information has been found regarding its parents.
❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9b. It can tolerate occasional minimum temperatures of up to −4 ºC when the substrate remains completely dry. In cultivation, it should be protected from prolonged frosts and, especially, from the combination of cold and moisture.
☀️ Light
Full sun. Approximate DLI: 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Intense light is essential to achieve its characteristic reddish-purple color and maintain a compact rosette. In Madrid, gradual acclimatization to direct sunlight after winter is recommended. During periods of extreme heat, it may benefit from some protection during the middle of the day.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. During the active growth period, water abundantly and let the substrate dry out completely before watering again. Moisture should never remain around the base of the plant.
In summer, growth may slow down during periods of extreme heat. In autumn, watering should be gradually reduced, and during winter dormancy, it should be kept almost completely dry.
🌸 Flowering
It may produce tall flower stalks with bell-shaped flowers
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
