🌱 Morphology
Korean... Forms compact and dense rosettes, approximately 8–12 cm in diameter in young specimens, which can increase in size with maturity. Its leaves are very fleshy, broad, rounded, and slightly concave, with short, soft tips. The characteristic coloring is pale jade green to bluish-green, covered in an abundant white pruina that provides a matte, frosted finish. The thick, overlapping leaves give the rosette a robust and orderly appearance. The coloring may vary with light, temperature, and water status.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is a horticultural hybrid of Korean origin, with no natural distribution in the wild. I have not found reliable documentation to confirm its parentage. It has been visually compared to ‘Ice Green’, ‘Alba Beauty’, and ‘Thick Monroe’, but these similarities do not constitute evidence of kinship. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a: −1.1 °C. This value corresponds to the lower climatic limit of the USDA zone, not a guaranteed minimum temperature for the cultivar. As there are no specific hardiness tests available, it is recommended to protect it from intense cold and frost, especially with damp substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with a reference range of DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It requires good lighting to maintain a compact rosette, but it is advisable to acclimate it gradually to direct sun. The pruina is delicate and rubs off, so it is recommended to handle the leaves as little as possible.
💧 Growth cycle and irrigation
Winter dormancy. During active growth, it is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out before watering again. Its thick leaves store water, so it is best to avoid overly frequent watering. In winter, reduce watering according to temperature and plant activity, always maintaining excellent drainage.
🌸 Flowering
Published information regarding the specific flowering of ‘Jade Butterfly’ is scarce and does not allow for the reliable determination of flower color, typical season, or the length of the flower stalks.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilization is not recommended during winter dormancy.
