Echeveria cuspitata var. cuspitata | Spear-point echeveria
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
Forms compact rosettes approximately 8–12 cm in diameter, with fleshy, narrow, and elongated leaves that gradually taper to a very sharp point, a feature that inspires the epithet cuspidata. The leaves have gray-green to bluish tones, with a fine powdery coating that softens their color. The rosette has a star-shaped silhouette, defined by the length and sharpness of its leaves. With abundant light, it can develop pink or reddish hues at the tips.
🌍 Distribution, habitat and family
It is a botanical variety native to northern Mexico, documented in Coahuila and Nuevo León. It inhabits arid regions and dry scrublands, where rapid drainage and irregular water availability favor its adaptation. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family, Sedeae tribe, Urceolatae series. The specific altitude of the populations of this variety is not sufficiently established in the sources consulted.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b: −3.9 °C. This value represents the lower climatic limit of the USDA zone, not a guaranteed minimum temperature for the plant. Although it comes from arid regions, it should not be assumed that it tolerates intense frosts simply by being a xerophyte. It is recommended to protect it from frosts, especially with high humidity or wet substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with a reference range of DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant lighting favors a compact rosette and a well-defined star-shaped silhouette. It is advisable to gradually acclimate it to direct sunlight to avoid leaf scorch.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. It is recommended to water thoroughly during growth and allow the substrate to dry before watering again. In winter, water input should be reduced, especially if temperatures are low. The substrate must be very well-draining, without waterlogging or persistent moisture around the base of the plant.
🌸 Flowering
Produces flower stems that rise above the rosette, with bell-shaped flowers in orange to reddish tones, with yellow tips, characteristic of the genus. The exact time may vary depending on growing conditions. There is not enough solid information to specify the age of first flowering, confirm self-fertility, or establish whether it exhibits multiple flowering flushes during the same season.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. During winter dormancy, fertilization is not recommended.
