€10,60
🌱 Morphology
Like gold... A dwarf, perennial, succulent, and rhizomatous cultivar that forms very compact, nest-like rosettes. The leaves are short, fleshy, lanceolate, and rigid, approximately 10–15 cm long, with a grayish-green surface crossed by darker bands and characteristic longitudinal cream-yellow stripes, especially marked on the margins. The plant usually remains around 10–20 cm in height.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It belongs to the Asparagaceae family. ‘Golden Hahnii’ is a horticultural cultivar of Dracaena trifasciata, a species native to western tropical Africa, from Nigeria to the Congo. Therefore, the cultivar has no natural distribution of its own.
❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 10a–11b. It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −1 °C in dry conditions, although it should be protected from frost and, especially, from the combination of cold and humidity.
☀️ Lighting
It prefers intense lighting, approximately 12–20 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of DLI PAR. It tolerates partial shade, but good light intensity helps maintain the contrast between the green and yellow bands.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. It grows mainly in warm temperatures. It is recommended to water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. During winter, water supply is significantly reduced, keeping the substrate practically dry.
🌸 Flowering
It is rare in this cultivar. When it occurs, an erect inflorescence appears with small, greenish-white tubular flowers with a sweet fragrance.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a high-tech square pot and with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
