🌱 Morphology
Compact hybrid that forms starry rosettes, approximately 15 cm in diameter and up to 12.5 cm in height, producing pups from the base and forming clumps over time. The leaves are triangular, fleshy, and deeply textured, with small protuberances or tubercles. Their base color is green, but the raised areas can acquire intense white, yellow, orange, red, or pink hues depending on lighting and water stress. The margins have irregular and relatively short teeth.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Asphodelaceae. It is a horticultural hybrid, so it does not have its own natural distribution. Its parentage is documented: the female parent is Aloe ‘Pink Blush’ and the pollen comes from a plant resulting from the cross Aloe divaricata × Aloe intermedia × Aloe ‘Pink Blush’. The cross was made in California.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a–11b as a conservative reference. Altman indicates protection from frost and an approximate tolerance of 36 °F (≈2 °C). For pot cultivation in Spain, we recommend keeping it above 5 °C, especially with moist substrate.
☀️ Lighting
It needs a lot of light to develop its characteristic coloration. Target during growth: 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ DLI PAR. It tolerates from partial sun to full sun after progressive acclimatization. Intense lighting causes the protuberances to turn from green to yellow, orange, and red; with little light, it remains much greener.
💧 Growth cycle
Opportunistic, capable of growing for much of the year if conditions are favorable, although it can slow down with cold or extreme heat. Water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. In winter or during periods of intense heat, space out waterings.
🌸 Flowering
It can flower practically all year round in cultivation, producing inflorescences with red tubular flowers, one of the distinctive characteristics of this cultivar. Flowering can recur under favorable conditions.
🌿 Nutrition
During growth, use Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthia & Co., with calcium and potassium. Reduce or suspend fertilization during periods of slow growth.
This is an inimitable xerophytic plant grown in Madrid in a technological square pot and with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
