🌿 Morphology: Very slow-growing agave, with a compact, symmetrical, and spherical rosette, generally 30–60 cm. Its leaves are thick, rigid, and triangular, dark green, with characteristic white lines and margins that form geometric patterns. The margins are almost entire and end in a short, strong spine. The roots are fleshy and shallow, adapted to rocky and very well-draining soils.
🌍 Origin and Habitat: Family Asparagaceae, subfamily Agavoideae. Native to northeastern Mexico, especially Coahuila and Nuevo León, where it grows in deserts and dry scrublands, frequently on slopes and limestone outcrops.
🌡️ Temperature: Approximately USDA 8b–11. Can withstand drops close to −12 °C when completely dry in mid-winter
☀️ Light: A species with high light requirements. During active growth, we recommend an approximate DLI of 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of PAR. Intense lighting promotes its characteristic compact rosette and the definition of the white markings. In extremely hot summers, it may appreciate some protection from the most intense midday sun.
💧 Watering and Dormancy: It is primarily opportunistic, although it usually slows down during periods of extreme heat and during winter. During growth, water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. In very hot summers and in winter, significantly reduce watering; keep it practically dry at low temperatures.
🌸 Flowering: It is monocarpic and can take many years to reach maturity. It produces a terminal inflorescence several meters tall, with pale yellow to cream-colored flowers, generally during summer. After flowering, the rosette dies.
🧪 Nutrition: During periods of active growth, fertilize with Desert CHOICE Succulents at a moderate and regular dose. As it is a slow-growing species, avoid excess nitrogen, which can lead to overly long leaves and a loss of its characteristic compact shape. Reduce fertilization during periods of lower activity and suspend it during cold weather.
