🌿 Morphology: Compact rosette agave with bluish tones, about 40–60 cm, that can form colonies through pups. Its leaves are fleshy, narrow, rigid, and bluish-green or grayish-green, with small marginal teeth and a characteristic black terminal spine, up to about 3–4 cm. It can develop a very short stem with age.

🌍 Origin and habitat: Family Asparagaceae, subfamily Agavoideae. It is endemic to Mexico, mainly southern Puebla and northern Oaxaca, within the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley region. It inhabits dry slopes, xerophilous scrub, and low deciduous forest, frequently on limestone soils and rocks and very dry slopes. It is an Endangered species in its habitat.

🌡️ Temperature: Approximately USDA 9a–11. It is considered hardy down to about −5 °C for established and completely dry specimens; there are references of occasional tolerance close to −7 °C. For cultivation in Spain, we recommend keeping it above −5 °C, especially avoiding the combination of cold, humidity, and wet substrate.

☀️ Light: Species with high light requirements. During active growth, we recommend an approximate DLI of 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of PAR. Intense sun promotes rosette compactness and the bluish tone of the leaves.

💧 Watering and dormancy: It mainly exhibits summer growth, although it can grow opportunistically during periods of mild temperatures. In spring-summer, water abundantly and let the substrate dry completely before the next watering. In autumn-winter, drastically reduce water supply and keep it almost dry when temperatures are low.

🌸 Flowering: It is monocarpic. It produces a flower stalk that can reach approximately 2–3 m, with small flowers in grayish, greenish, and reddish tones. In populations of the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley, flowering is concentrated approximately between July and October. The rosette that flowers dies after reproduction, but there may be pups that perpetuate the colony.

🧪 Nutrition: During spring and summer, coinciding with its growth period, fertilize with Desert CHOICE at a moderate and regular dose. Gradually reduce fertilization at the end of summer and suspend it during the cold or dormant period.
