€53,00
🌱 Morphology
Giant clone of this species, which is highly variable in its own right. Haworthia magnifica forms compact rosettes, without a visible stem, and grows slowly, generally reaching up to about 8 cm in diameter. Its fleshy leaves spread outwards and feature retuse, flattened, or slightly sunken tips, with a somewhat translucent area between the veins. The coloration varies from dark green to purplish-green and may intensify with light and environmental stress. The leaf surface usually shows small raised bumps; the margins and keel can be rough or have small teeth. Populations differ considerably in size, texture, and color. During the summer dormancy, some old roots may deteriorate and be replaced by new roots when growth resumes in autumn.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
Botanical species from South Africa described by Karl von Poellnitz in 1933. Its distribution is concentrated around Riversdale, in the Western Cape province, with populations also cited near the Tradouw Pass. It grows in rocky environments, where vegetation and terrain may provide protection from intense sunlight. Its classification and its boundaries with closely related species have been the subject of different taxonomic interpretations.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is moist. It tolerates moderate heat if it has ventilation and protection from intense sunlight.
☀️ Lighting
Bright filtered light or bright partial shade. Balanced lighting promotes a compact form and can intensify dark tones; strong direct sunlight can cause burns. Approximate DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cooler seasons, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before watering again. During periods of intense heat, reduce watering and promote ventilation. Gradually resume watering in autumn, when temperatures drop and root growth reactivates. Avoid waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a slender, elongated inflorescence that can reach about 40 cm, with small whitish or brownish flowers and darker veins. The flowering is modest compared to the attractiveness of the rosette.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., NPK 3-2-8 with calcium and magnesium is recommended. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
