Aloe 'Mint Stripes'
€7,95
🌱 Morphology
Compact aloe that forms a rosette of fleshy, narrow, elongated, and pointed leaves, initially arranged quite upright. The green surface is covered by numerous thin, light green longitudinal stripes, which produce the characteristic "mint stripes" appearance. It can reach approximately 25–30 cm in height, and the leaves are relatively fragile, so they can be damaged during handling.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is a cultivar of horticultural origin, so it does not have its own natural distribution or wild habitat. It belongs to the Asphodelaceae family. The RHS recognizes 'Mint Stripes', although its botanical status is currently considered unresolved.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9a–11b. For cultivation in Spain, we recommend keeping it above 5 ºC, especially in pots. It can tolerate occasional drops close to 3 ºC if the substrate remains completely dry, but we do not recommend exposing it to frost. The resistance currently indicated in DesertSTORE of 3 ºC should be considered a prudent limit and not an optimal growing temperature.
☀️ Lighting
During growth, 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of DLI PAR. It needs abundant light to maintain compact growth and the definition of its stripes. In Madrid, it can receive gentle direct sun, but it is advisable to protect it from the most intense sun during the central hours of summer, especially after spending the winter indoors.
💧 Growth cycle
It has opportunistic behavior, although some cultivation sources indicate a slowdown during the hottest summer. It can grow for much of the year if it has moderate temperatures. Water abundantly and let the substrate dry completely before the next watering. During winter and periods of extreme heat, space out waterings considerably. It is especially important to prevent the substrate from remaining wet for a long time.
🌸 Flowering
It can produce typical Aloe inflorescences with tubular flowers.
