€10,60
🌱 Morphology
A perennial succulent, without an apparent stem, that forms fleshy rosettes approximately 5–10 cm in diameter and produces numerous basal offsets, creating dense clumps over time. Its leaves are thick, turgid, and densely arranged, generally ovate-lanceolate in shape, with rounded, slightly truncated or gently emarginate tips. The most distinctive feature of this variety is its pale green, yellowish-green, or grayish coloration, lighter than that of many forms of Haworthia suberecta. The leaves feature abundant whitish flecks and green longitudinal lines, as well as translucent areas reminiscent of small glass veins. Cold, intense light, or some water restriction can bring out pink and coppery hues.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is known from Draaihoek, near Albertinia, in the Western Cape, South Africa, where the original material described by G. G. Smith was collected. Related populations also exist around the Gouritz River and Brandwacht, north of Mossel Bay. It grows on stony slopes, including clay and schist soils, where rocks and low vegetation offer partial protection and the water drains quickly. The region receives rainfall mainly in winter, although its distribution includes enclaves with variable precipitation throughout the year.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is best kept above -1 °C and protected from frost, especially if the substrate is moist.
☀️ Lighting
It prefers abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Gradual exposure to slightly more intense light can accentuate the pink hues, but strong, sudden sunlight can cause dehydration and burns. Approximate DLI PAR: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Its growth is encouraged during the cool and mild seasons. In autumn, winter, and spring, it is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out before the next watering. During summer, reduce watering as temperatures rise and maintain good ventilation, without allowing dehydration to persist for too long.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a simple, slender, erect inflorescence, about 15–20 cm long, with small tubular flowers that are brownish-white with darker lines. Flowering is inconspicuous, and the main ornamental appeal lies in the pale color and flecking of the leaves.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of bioavailable potassium and calcium. Apply with watering, and reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
