Haworthia mirabilis ‘'Jacubi' | Goukou's Obsidian Haworthia
€15,90
🌱 Morphology
A slow-growing collector's Haworthia that usually forms a compact, solitary rosette with fleshy, triangular leaves and a rough surface. The dark green leaves can take on reddish, coppery, or purple hues depending on the lighting and growing conditions. They feature small bumps and surface irregularities, with margins edged with tiny teeth. The combination of rough texture, deep coloration, and leaf geometry gives it a stony appearance, like a piece of carved obsidian. Its variability means that some specimens resemble the forms traditionally called paradoxa and magnifica.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
It is known from a population in the lower reaches of the Goukou River, near Klipfontein and Still Bay in the Western Cape, South Africa. It grows in an area where various intermediate forms of the Haworthia mirabilis complex occur, on stony ground and among low vegetation. The form known as Jakubii was named after Jakub Jilemický, who provided information about its locality. It is not necessarily a cultivar created through breeding, but rather a plant of wild origin identified by its provenance and characteristics.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
Tolerates minimum temperatures close to −1 °C for short periods and when the substrate is dry. It should be protected from prolonged frosts and damp cold.
☀️ Lighting
Bright filtered light or bright partial shade. Gradually increasing light intensity can accentuate the dark and reddish hues, but harsh, sudden sunlight should be avoided. Approximate DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. It may grow when moderate temperatures, suitable lighting, and available moisture coincide. Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before watering again. During extreme heat or cold, reduce watering and avoid waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
Produces a slender, elongated inflorescence with small whitish flowers marked by green or brown lines. Flowering is inconspicuous, and the main ornamental appeal lies in the rough texture and coloration of the leaves.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with water, reducing or suspending fertilization during periods of dormancy or inactivity.
