€10,60
🌱 Morphology
Practically stemless succulent that forms compact, flattened rosettes about 5–8 cm in diameter. Over time, it produces basal offsets and can form dense clumps. Its leaves are fleshy, narrow, and acuminate, ranging from grayish-green to bluish-green, with small papillae on the surface. Its most distinctive feature is the thin, elongated reddish filament extending from the tip of each leaf, which can reach 8–15 mm. This detail gives it a delicate appearance and helps distinguish it from other compact-rosette Graptopetalum.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae · It is native to northwestern Mexico and is considered endemic to the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua, although some databases extend its distribution to Sonora and Sinaloa. It grows in dry environments and scrublands, in rocky areas with rapid drainage.
❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9a. Tolerates minimum temperatures close to −6 ºC for short periods if the substrate remains completely dry. It is sensitive to cold, damp conditions and prolonged frosts; in winter, it should be protected from persistent rain and kept well-ventilated.
☀️ Lighting
Bright partial shade. Approximate PAR DLI: 12–20 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It benefits from abundant light, with soft morning or late afternoon sun. Excessive radiation and heat can cause the leaves to yellow or redden. In Madrid, it is recommended to protect it from intense midday sun during the summer.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During active growth, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. Persistent moisture promotes root rot and decay at the base of the rosettes. In winter, watering should be greatly reduced, keeping the substrate practically dry during cold periods.
🌸 Flowering
Produces lateral inflorescences with star-shaped flowers, generally white and decorated with reddish spots or bands on the petals. Flowering is mainly associated with spring, although it may vary depending on growing conditions. There is insufficient data to determine the age at first flowering.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
