🌱 Morphology
Forms dense, low, and fairly symmetrical rosettes up to 20 cm in diameter. Its fleshy, elongated, pointed leaves have a bluish-green or silvery-gray surface covered with a powdery coating, with tones that shift toward mauve, pink, and violet. In intense light, the contrast between the bluer center and the purple-tinged outer leaves adds depth to the rosette. Over time, it produces basal offsets that can form compact clumps.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is a horticultural hybrid of unknown origin, with no native wild distribution or parent plants identified with certainty. It is cultivated for its color combination and compact growth habit. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family. As its lineage is unknown, it is not assigned to an infrageneric series.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b: −3.9 °C. This is the lower climatic limit of this USDA zone, not a guarantee of the plant’s cold tolerance. Protection from frost is recommended, especially when it coincides with high humidity or wet substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with a general guideline of DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant light encourages a compact growth habit and pink and violet hues. Gradually acclimate it to direct sunlight and avoid sudden changes that could cause sunburn.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. Growth is encouraged by mild temperatures and good light. Water thoroughly and let the substrate dry out before watering again. Reduce watering during winter depending on the temperature and the plant’s activity, always avoiding waterlogging and water collecting between the leaves.
🌸 Flowering
It produces flower stalks bearing bell-shaped flowers described as pale yellow, orange, and pink. Flowering usually occurs in spring and summer, although this may vary depending on growing conditions. There is not enough reliable information to establish a fixed age for first flowering, confirm self-fertility, or determine whether it flowers in multiple flushes within a single season.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Bloom. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
