🌱 Morphology
Compact, fast-growing hybrid obtained by Renee O’Connell in California through a breeding program. It comes from the cross between the mother plant x Sedeveria ‘Sed 09’ and a selection of Echeveria called ‘Lei 12’. The cross was made in 2012 and the selection was made in 2013.
Forms a very dense, compact, and fleshy rosette, which can reach approximately 11 cm in diameter and about 10.5 cm in height. The leaves are numerous, obovate, slightly glaucous, and matte, with an approximate length of 3–5 cm. They have a clearly pointed apex, although fleshy and not rigid.
Its most attractive feature is its coloration: the leaves are gray-green or silvery blue, covered by a light pruinose coating, and develop a pink, mauve, and violet blush, especially intense at the tips and when receiving plenty of light. Over time, it produces offsets easily and can form small groups.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae. Horticultural hybrid Sedeveria × Echeveria, with no natural distribution of its own.
It should not be considered a botanical Echeveria nor assigned to an infrageneric series of Echeveria. Its trade name often appears as “Echeveria ‘Lilac Mist’”, but the breeding documentation and patent classify it as Sedeveria × Echeveria.
❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9b. Tolerates minimum temperatures of up to approximately −2 ºC according to the original documentation, provided it remains dry. Actual resistance may vary with acclimatization and the plant's water status.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun. Approximate DLI PAR: 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Intense light is essential to develop the characteristic pink-violet coloration of the tips and maintain the compact rosette. In Madrid, gradual acclimatization to direct sun is recommended, especially after winter, and temporary protection during extreme heat episodes.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It is a relatively fast-growing hybrid that can remain active during much of the warm seasons. During active growth, abundant watering and letting the substrate dry out completely before watering again are recommended.
During extreme temperatures, it may temporarily slow its growth. In winter, watering will be considerably spaced out, and the substrate will be kept from staying moist at low temperatures.
🌸 Flowering
It flowers in autumn like most of the notogenera within this group: x Sedeverias, x Graptoverias, x Pachyverias, etc.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. During dormancy, fertilization is not recommended.
This is an inimitable xerophyte cultivated in Madrid in a technological square pot and with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
