Echeveria ‘Culibra’ | The Silver Cobra
€21,20
🌱 Morphology
A sculptural-looking horticultural hybrid that forms rosettes approximately 15–20 cm in diameter. Its leaves are long, fleshy, and bluish-green or purplish-blue, greener at the base, with wavy pink-toned margins. The surface has a whitish farina and striking raised, irregular caruncles. As the leaves mature, the caruncles and edges develop unevenly, causing them to curve and curl into an almost tubular shape. This combination of ridges and twists is reminiscent of a cobra with its neck arched.
🌍 Origin, lineage, and family
A horticultural hybrid cultivar, attributed by some sources to Dick Wright, around 1980, although its lineage has not been confirmed and its parent plants have not been identified with certainty. It belongs to the family Crassulaceae, tribe Sedeae. It is also marketed as Echeveria ‘Culebra’; the form ‘Culibra’ is recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society. As a horticultural cultivar, it has no native distribution.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a: −1.1 °C. This value represents the lower limit of the climate zone, not a guaranteed minimum temperature for the cultivar. As a precaution, it is recommended to protect it from frost and prolonged damp cold.
☀️ Lighting
Bright partial shade, with a reference PAR DLI of 12–20 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It needs plenty of light to maintain compact growth and bring out its bluish and pink tones, but it should be protected from the intense midday summer sun to prevent leaf scorch.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. During active growth, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before watering again. Reduce watering in winter, especially at low temperatures. Given the complex shape of the leaves, avoid letting water collect between their folds and caruncles. An airy, fast-draining substrate is required.
🌸 Flowering
It may produce flower stalks with bell-shaped flowers in shades ranging from pink to orange-red, although its flowering is less documented than its unusual foliage.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Bloom. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
