🌱 Morphology

A compact and architectural Crassula cultivar, with erect stems that can reach approximately 20 cm in height and about 10 cm in width in cultivated specimens.

Its main ornamental feature is the leaves: thick, fleshy, elongated, and curved, with an arched tip reminiscent of a boomerang. They are arranged opposite and decussate, partially clasping the stem, with successive pairs being very close and overlapping, creating a particularly characteristic geometric structure.

The leaves exhibit a grayish-green to glaucous, matte coloration and can acquire reddish hues at the tips when exposed to intense light. Growth is erect and compact.

The trade name ‘Boomerang’ refers precisely to the characteristic curvature of the leaves.

🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family

Family Crassulaceae. As this is a horticultural cultivar, it should not be assigned a specific geographical distribution nor described as a natural population from South Africa.

The cultivar is registered by the RHS as Crassula ‘Boomerang’ (‘Amicra2140’), with trade name status. It is frequently associated in trade with Crassula perfoliata var. falcata due to the similarity of its leaves, but there is not enough primary documentation available to affirm its parentage here.

USDA Zone 9b–11b.

It can be grown outdoors in mild climates, provided the substrate remains very well-drained. Cold tolerance decreases when the roots are damp or when low temperatures persist for long periods.

In Madrid, it can be kept outdoors for a good part of the year, but it must be protected during frost episodes, especially if the substrate is not completely dry.

Intense lighting is recommended, with a target of 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of DLI PAR.

High radiation is especially important to maintain the compact habit, short internodes, and the glaucous hue of the leaves. Lack of light encourages stem elongation and causes the loss of part of the characteristic overlapping leaf structure.

Acclimatized specimens can receive several hours of direct sun. During periods of extreme radiation and temperatures, it is advisable to control the combination of heat and dehydration to avoid burns or excessive stress.

💧 Growth cycle and watering

As it is a horticultural cultivar without documented natural provenance that would allow for the assignment of a specific rainfall regime, it is not appropriate to automatically attribute a summer or winter dormancy based on its resemblance to C. perfoliata var. falcata.

In cultivation, it can maintain growth during seasons with moderate temperatures. During the active period, it is recommended to water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before watering again.

When temperatures are very high and growth slows down, the frequency of watering should be reduced. Likewise, during cold periods when the plant remains inactive, water supply should be spaced out considerably.

The regimen should be adjusted based on temperature, actual growth, and the drying rate of the substrate, avoiding keeping the roots damp for long periods.

🌸 Flowering

The cultivar may produce a terminal inflorescence when it reaches sufficient maturity. However, the available horticultural documentation on ‘Boomerang’ is not detailed enough to reliably establish a specific flowering calendar for the cultivar or to attribute floral characteristics different from those of its origin group.
