🌱 Morphology
A small, stemless, and very prolific Aloe that forms dense, mat-forming clumps. The rosettes are small and produce a short basal stem that branches from the base. The leaves, about 10 per rosette, are narrow, fleshy, flat on the upper side and very convex on the underside, up to about 13 cm long. They are bluish-green, with fine whitish longitudinal lines and small elongated white spots. The margins are armed with hard, sharp, triangular teeth, while the last 2–3 cm of the leaf are smooth. It can reach about 40 cm when in bloom.

🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
A species from the Asphodelaceae family, endemic to southwestern Madagascar. The type locality is north of Ambovombe, where it grows on granite outcrops in dry scrubland. Kew currently considers it an accepted species and places it in desert or dry scrubland biomes. It is listed as Endangered (EN) by the IUCN.

❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b–11b. It is sensitive to frost, and its ability to withstand brief temperature drops should not be confused with true hardiness. For a potted plant in Madrid, we recommend keeping it above 5 °C, especially avoiding cold, damp conditions and frost.

☀️ Lighting
During growth, 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ DLI PAR. It needs plenty of light to maintain its compact habit and to highlight its white lines and spots. It tolerates full sun if acclimatized, although in Madrid it is advisable to protect it from the most intense sun during the central hours of extremely hot days.

💧 Growth cycle
Opportunistic, with possible slowdowns during periods of intense heat and drought. Its habitat is very arid, and the species is adapted to alternating periods of water availability with drought. In cultivation: water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before the next watering. Reduce watering during winter and during episodes of extreme heat.

🌸 Flowering
It produces a relatively long inflorescence for the size of the plant, with hanging tubular flowers. The floral tube can reach about 2.8 cm and features a spectacular vermilion red or orange-red, with a whitish upper part and a prominent green central vein; the anthers are orange. Flowering is not sufficiently documented to establish a single reliable month, although flowering has been recorded at different times in cultivation.
