€7,95
🌱 Morphology
An extraordinarily rare, small aloe. It is an acaulescent plant of extraordinary delicacy, forming compact rosettes of narrow, elongated, grayish-green leaves, speckled with small white dots and featuring tiny marginal teeth. It can form clumps over time. Its most spectacular feature is its flowers: white, bell-shaped and widely open, an unusual form within the Aloe genus. Each flower is approximately 10 mm long and up to 14 mm in diameter at the opening.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Asphodelaceae, tribe Alooideae. It is endemic to southern Madagascar, where it grew in dry scrub environments on poor, well-drained soils. Aloe albiflora is considered Critically Endangered and its presence in the wild has not been confirmed for decades; currently, its conservation depends largely on cultivated collections.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 9a
Tolerates minimum temperatures down to approximately −4 °C. It is recommended to keep it protected from prolonged frosts and, especially, from cold combined with a moist substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Soft sun–bright partial shade. It needs abundant light to maintain compact growth and encourage flowering, but in Mediterranean climates, it is recommended to protect it from intense midday sun during the summer. As a reference, 20–30 mol/m²/day of DLI PAR.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. It is recommended to gradually reduce watering during the hottest and driest period, keeping the substrate completely dry between waterings. During growth periods, it can be watered deeply, always with excellent drainage.
🌸 Flowering
This is one of the features that makes this species exceptional. It produces slender and generally unbranched inflorescences, about 20–36 cm long, with white, bell-shaped, and slightly translucent flowers, approximately 1 cm long and 1.4 cm in diameter at the opening. In cultivation, it can flower for a good part of the year and even produce successive inflorescences when conditions are favorable.
In cultivation from seed, flowering has been documented as early as the second year, although the age of first flowering depends heavily on growth and cultivation conditions.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bio-assimilable calcium. It is applied with irrigation, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
8x8 cm gourmet black pot
