❄️ Temperature · USDA Zone 9a
It tolerates minimum temperatures of up to −5 ºC when kept dry and with well-acclimated specimens. During winter, it must remain completely dry.
☀️ Lighting
It needs plenty of light and direct sun to maintain a compact shape and dense spination. A DLI PAR of 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended during active growth, with progressive acclimatization to intense sun.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter rest. Keep dry during the cold months. In spring and summer, water deeply and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. Its origin in rocky and dry terrain requires very fast drainage and good ventilation.
🌸 Flowering
It flowers in adult specimens of 3-4 years. The flowers are large in proportion to the body, pink to lavender-pink, and appear during the warm season. After flowering, it develops orange, elongated fruits, up to 3 cm long, with black seeds.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, a fertilizer with a high content of assimilable calcium and low levels of nitrogen is recommended, such as Desert CHOICE® Cactaceae, applied once a month when watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering.
