Echeveria ‘Lola’ | Mother-of-Pearl Rose
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
One of the most recognizable classic hybrids by Dick Wright, bred in California in 1980 by crossing Echeveria ‘Tippy’ × Echeveria lilacina. It forms a symmetrical rosette that is initially compact and can reach 15–20 cm and become more open as it matures. Its fleshy, smooth, slightly spatulate leaves are covered in abundant whitish farina, giving them an almost pearlescent finish. Delicate lavender, pink, lilac, and peach tones appear against the bluish-gray background, while the tips can take on a pinkish hue.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
A horticultural cultivar with no natural distribution of its own. Family Crassulaceae. As a hybrid, it is not assigned to an infrageneric series. Its relationship to Echeveria lilacina accounts for much of its abundant farina and characteristic pastel coloring.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b. It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −4 ºC in dry conditions and for brief periods. To keep the rosette in perfect condition, it is best to avoid prolonged frost.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with a recommended PAR DLI of 20–30 mol/m²/day. Bright light keeps the rosette compact and enhances its lavender and pink tones. The farina should be preserved by avoiding handling the leaves, as contact marks are permanent.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. Water thoroughly during the growing season and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. In winter, when light levels and temperatures are lower, water much less often and keep the substrate practically dry.
🌸 Flowering
Mature plants produce relatively short flower stalks bearing bell-shaped yellow, orange, or peach flowers, usually in spring and early summer. ‘Lola’ can be confused with ‘Derenceana’, whose young plants look very similar and produce virtually indistinguishable flowers; as it ages, ‘Lola’ develops a larger, more open rosette.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Bloom. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
