🌱 Morphology
A compact rosette that looks as if carved from a polished stone: thick, fleshy, and smooth leaves, ovate in shape, slightly convex on the reverse, and ending in a distinct point. The base color ranges from fresh green to yellowish-green and, when exposed to plenty of light and cool temperatures, intense dark red tones appear on the tips and margins. It maintains a very symmetrical rosette and can reach approximately 15 cm in diameter.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Horticultural hybrid of Korean origin belonging to the Echeveria genus, within the Crassulaceae family. As it is a cultivar, it has no natural distribution or specific habitat. Its commercial name also appears as Korean Moon Stone and it is mainly grown for the compact shape of the rosette and the contrast between the green of the leaves and their reddish edges.
❄️ Temperature — USDA Zone 9b–11b
It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −3.9 ºC when dry, acclimatized, and protected from prolonged exposure to cold. To keep the rosette in perfect condition, it is especially important to avoid the combination of low temperatures and damp substrate.
☀️ Lighting
It requires very intense lighting to keep the rosette compact and develop the characteristic red edge. During active growth, it can receive several hours of direct sun, always with progressive acclimatization. A target of 18–25 mol/m²/day of DLI PAR promotes good structure and intense coloration. During heat waves, it may appreciate some protection during the central hours without excessively reducing luminosity.
💧 Growth cycle and irrigation
Opportunistic. It can remain active for a good part of the year when temperatures are moderate and there is sufficient light, although spring and autumn usually offer the most favorable conditions. During active growth, abundant watering is recommended, letting the substrate dry completely before watering again. During periods of extreme heat, watering should be spaced out, and in winter, reduced if low temperatures slow down root activity.
🌸 Flowering
It produces floral stems that rise above the rosette and bear reddish-toned flowers, the appearance of which is described mainly during the summer. In Madrid, with good lighting and a well-developed plant, flowering can occur from late spring to summer.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, a specific fertilizer for succulents is recommended, with a high content of assimilable calcium, such as Desert CHOICE® Suculentas, applied once a month when watering.
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a high-tech square pot and with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
📏 Gourmet xerophyte in a 10x10 cm pot.
