🌱 Morphology
A shrubby, branched succulent that develops progressively elongated stems and numerous rosettes approximately 5–9 cm in diameter. The leaves are fleshy, smooth, ovate to triangular in shape, and pointed at the tips, with a slightly concave center and a somewhat keeled back. Their usual color is grayish-green or silvery-green, with reddish margins and tips. Under intense light or cool nights, the leaves can take on brick-red and terracotta tones. Over time, it forms highly attractive branched clusters.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is a horticultural hybrid, likely created by the hybridizer Ed Hummel. Its genealogy is not known with certainty and, therefore, it cannot be assigned a wild distribution or a natural habitat. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family. It is not appropriate to assign it an infrageneric series without knowing its parents.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a: −1.1 °C. This is the lower climatic limit for that USDA zone, not a guarantee of tolerance for the cultivar. It is recommended to protect it from frost and keep the substrate dry when temperatures are low.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with a guideline reference of DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant lighting promotes compact rosette growth and reddish coloration of the margins. It is advisable to acclimate it gradually to direct sun to avoid burns.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It does not have a strictly documented seasonal dormancy. Growth depends on temperature, light, and water availability. It is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before the next watering. In winter, water intake should be significantly reduced, especially in cold environments, avoiding waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
It produces arched floral stems up to about 25 cm, with hanging, bell-shaped coral-colored flowers, generally during the warm months. There is insufficient solid data available to specify the age of first flowering, confirm its self-fertility, or establish if it blooms again in several pulses within the same season.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
