🌱 Morphology: A shrubby and branched hybrid Aeonium, with stems that gradually become bare at the base and large terminal rosettes, up to about 40 cm in diameter. The leaves are fleshy, relatively large, and distinctly wavy or curly. The foliage can acquire very dark purple tones, especially with high light and during the summer. It can reach approximately 2 m in height in adult specimens. It produces offsets on bare stems and occasionally from the base.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family: This is a hybrid cultivar of horticultural origin, so it does not have a natural distribution or its own habitat. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family. Its specific genealogy is not reliably published, so I would not attribute specific parentage.
❄️ Temperature: Approximately USDA 9b–11b. Commercial references indicate a minimum tolerance of around −2 °C, but for safe cultivation in Spain, I recommend keeping it above 5 °C, especially in pots and with moist substrate.
☀️ Lighting: Target 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of PAR DLI during growth. It needs plenty of light to develop its characteristic purple coloration; it is advisable to gradually acclimate it to direct sun and protect it from the most intense sun when temperatures are extreme.
💧 Growth cycle: Like other Aeoniums, it shows maximum activity from autumn to spring, significantly reducing its growth during the summer. During the active period, water abundantly and let the substrate dry completely before the next watering. In summer, water much less frequently and avoid keeping the substrate moist at high temperatures.
🌸 Flowering: It produces a large terminal inflorescence of small yellow flowers, after which the rosette that flowered dies, although the offsets can maintain the plant. In adult specimens, the flower stalk can add an additional 40 cm to the height.
🌿 Nutrition: During the active growth period, use Desert CHOICE at a moderate dose, suspending or significantly reducing fertilization during summer dormancy.
