Palm Trees is a magnificently documented book prepared by specialists José Plumed and Manuel Costa, which includes the 39 genera of palm trees represented in the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia. A living museum dedicated to the conservation of plants that reflects the great biodiversity of plant species that we can find on our planet. With this work the Botanist begins a series of botanical monographs that will be dedicated to the various collections it houses, starting with the great Arecaceae family that brings together the almost 3,000 species of palm trees that exist today. With its woody appearance of a generally unbranched stipe and with leaves gathered at the top, this large group of monocotyledons presents unmistakable characteristics that will be addressed throughout the book. General description, structure, etymology, taxonomic and ecological data of interest, distribution maps, traditional uses and exploitation of each of the species, together with images of high visual quality that will introduce the reader to the fascinating world of palm trees. A very diverse group typical of tropical and subtropical environments, but which is widely represented in the Botanical Garden thanks to the mild climate of Valencia. Authors: Manuel Costa and Jose Plumed. Publisher: University of Valencia. Language: copies available in Spanish. Year 2013.
