🌡️Su iluminación ideal es sol parcial y la temperatura mínima es de 0ºC.
🌸Su floración se produce en primavera.

Cultivadas solamente en sustrato mineral, lo que da más fortaleza y resistencia.

En 2004 en España, la orden SCO 190/2004 de 28 de enero estableció una lista de plantas cuya venta al público quedaba prohibida o restringida por razón de su toxicidad. La orden incluía un total de 197 especies y, por razones de seguridad, su utilización quedaba restringida a la fabricación de medicamentos, cepas homeopáticas e investigación. Por lo tanto, la venta libre de estas plantas al público quedaba prohibida (salvo con fines ornamentales industriales o cosméticos)
Este cactus siempre ha sido cultivado en España como planta ornamental por coleccionistas y nunca fue su intención ser planta medicinal. Por lo tanto, en el 2004 este cactus de colección para uso ornamental no quedo afectado. Aunque hubo ciertas interpretaciones erróneas por el público y los medios en su momento
Pero además esta orden fue anulada por sentencia de la Audiencia nacional (Sala de lo Contencioso-Administrativo sección cuarta) de 27 de junio del 2005 y por tanto no es de aplicación al mercado de plantas medicinales. Aunque posteriormente la ley 29/2006 corrigiera esta circunstancia en su artículo 51.2. Pero esta nueva lista NO se ha desarrollado hasta la fecha.

Este mineral es altamente poroso, lo que permite almacenar cerca del 40% de su peso en humedad, asegurando el suministro de agua bajo condiciones adversas. Facilita la aireación de la raíz, disminuyendo la compactación del sustrato, sin favorecer la acumulación de sales ni alterar el pH con el paso del tiempo. Presenta una coloración característica blanco-azulada.
Es un componente mineral ACTIVO, ya que tiene una elevada capacidad de Intercambio catiónico semejante a las arcillas (filosilicatos) pero sin los inconvenientes de compactación de estas. Es muy reciente su utilización en mezclas de sustratos de cultivo. Nunca se usa en una proporción mayor de 15% en volumen en la mezcla final.En el cultivo de cactus y suculentas es el que mayor agua de reserva presenta debido a sus microporos intrapartícula abiertos. Es capaz también de adsorber compuestos orgánicos volátiles.
