🌿 Morphology: Cultivar selected in a nursery, derived from the original botanical species. Cactus is globose to cylindrical, usually solitary or forming small groups with age. Stem approximately 7–15 cm in diameter, with numerous low ribs and slightly marked tubercles. Areoles are densely covered with short, pectinate, and very close-set radial spines, in cream or cream-white colors, forming bands that give the plant its characteristic iridescent appearance. Roots are fibrous. It is also known as Rainbow Cactus.

🌍 Origin and Habitat: Family Cactaceae. Native to northern Mexico and southwestern United States; the albispinus form is mainly associated with Sonora and Chihuahua, in arid mountain environments, rocky slopes, and mineral soils, generally at approximately 1,200 to 2,000 m altitude.

🌡️ Temperature: Approximately USDA 7b–10a. It can withstand temperatures close to −12 °C when completely dry and properly acclimated. For cultivation in Spain, we recommend keeping it above −7 °C, especially in pots, protecting it from rain and persistent humidity during frosts.

☀️ Light: Species with very high light demand. During active growth, we recommend an approximate DLI of 25–35 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ PAR. Intense lighting is essential to maintain compact growth and enhance the spectacular coloration of the spines.

💧 Watering and Rest: Primarily shows spring-summer growth, with a marked slowdown during winter. In spring and summer, water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. In autumn, progressively reduce water, and during winter, keep it completely dry, especially below 10 °C.

🌸 Flowering: Large and very striking flowers, pure white with a prominent green polylubed stigma, with a lighter center, appearing near the top of the stem. Flowering usually occurs mainly between April and June, coinciding with the beginning of the growth period.

🧪 Nutrition: During spring and summer, fertilize with a nutrient solution with high content of assimilable Calcium, such as Desert CHOICE Cactaceae, at a moderate and regular dose. At the end of summer, progressively reduce fertilization and suspend it during winter dormancy. Avoid excess nitrogen to maintain compact growth and spine quality.
