🌱 Morphology
 Small perennial succulent, erect to decumbent in habit, sparsely branched, reaching approximately 15 cm in height and 9 cm in diameter. The stems are short, fleshy, about 7–12 mm in diameter, and brownish-gray in tone.

The leaves are very fleshy and dorsiventrally compressed, although they can occasionally be almost cylindrical. They measure approximately 3–9.5 × 0.5–1.7 cm, and are oblong-lanceolate to elliptical in shape, with a cuneate base and obtuse apex. The upper side is flat and the lower side is convex. Their coloring varies from grayish-green to silvery-gray, and purple spots are usually present, although there are populations and clones with leaves that are practically without spots. This variability is one of the characteristic traits of the taxon.

🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae. This subspecies is distributed throughout Northern Cape and Western Cape, South Africa, also extending into Namibia within the species' range. It mainly inhabits the Succulent Karoo, associated with slopes and rocky outcrops where the plants take advantage of crevices and small accumulations of soil.

❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9b–11b. It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −3 ºC, provided that the substrate remains completely dry and exposure to cold is occasional. Cold accompanied by persistent humidity is considerably more dangerous than a brief drop in temperature while dry.

☀️ Lighting
Indicative DLI PAR: 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It requires intense lighting to maintain compact growth and to promote the expression of the reddish or purple tones of the spots. Gentle sun or very intense light is recommended, with progressive acclimatization to direct sun. During episodes of extreme heat, it may be advisable to filter radiation during the central hours of the day.

💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. Its origin in the Succulent Karoo, with irregular rainfall and considerable variability between locations, makes it inappropriate to impose a rigid growth schedule. Activity is favored during periods of moderate temperatures, while both intense cold and extreme heat can slow it down.

During growth, it is recommended to water abundantly and let the substrate dry completely before the next watering. In autumn, watering can be gradually reduced, and during the winter, especially if temperatures are low, it should be kept practically dry. During episodes of intense heat, it is also advisable to space out waterings until active growth is observed. The high water-storage capacity of its leaves allows it to withstand prolonged dry periods.

🌸 Flowering
The inflorescence is elevated relative to the size of the plant and reaches approximately 12–35 cm. It is formed by small cymes of one to three flowers. The corolla tube measures about 10–13 mm, is greenish-yellow at the base and can acquire reddish tones towards the throat, while the petals are triangular, white or slightly pinkish. The throat is hairless.

Flowering occurs towards mid-summer between July and September, although the timing may shift depending on temperatures and the watering regimen.

During periods of active growth, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. It is not recommended to fertilize during periods of intense cold, extreme heat, or lack of growth.
